MEET MIKE

I'm a lifelong South Carolinian, raised in Chapin. My wife and I have been married thirty years and raised two children here. We're members of St. Andrew's Church, we live on Sullivan's Island, and I hold to the conservative values I was brought up on.

I'm a College of Charleston graduate. In 2009 I started a company called Equiscript from my living room. The work was unglamorous and exact: tracking millions of healthcare transactions and making sure

every one of them added up. We grew it from nothing to millions in revenue. Equiscript made the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing companies in America five years running, ranked among South Carolina's 25 fastest-growing companies two years in a row, and

was named one of the Best Places to Work in South Carolina three years running, and once nationally by Modern Healthcare.

Fifteen years of that work taught me one thing. Money tells the truth when somebody keeps an honest count of it, and it goes missing when nobody does. That is the whole reason I'm running for Comptroller General. In 2023 the state had to restate its books by $3.5 billion. The office that was supposed to be keeping the count wasn't, and the system was built so that no one paid a price for it.

I'll change that. My Online Taxpayer Checkbook will put the state's spending where you can see it, so you don't need a FOIA request to find out where your money went. I'll examine what the state spends the way a business owner examines his own books, and when a dollar doesn't meet a plain standard of legality, necessity, and impact, I'll stop it

and show you.

This isn't the first time I've asked South Carolinians for their vote. In 1998 I ran as the Republican nominee for the 5th Congressional District against a sixteen-year incumbent, knocked on doors across York County, and earned 64,626 votes. I didn't win, but I learned what it takes to fight for a seat one door at a time.

I'm not a politician. I'm a businessman who spent his career making numbers honest, and I want to do that for the state I've lived in my whole life.
