BUILDING A MORE TRANSPARENT AND DISCIPLINED FINANCIAL OFFICE

Mike Burkhold has established the Comptroller General’s Leadership Council to

strengthen and modernize South Carolina’s financial oversight.

In a state that manages more than $40 billion annually, financial leadership must be proactive rather than reactive. Systems must be modern. Reporting must be timely. Controls must be strong. Procurement compliance must be enforced. And communication must be clear.

The Council is composed of leaders who have managed large enterprises, overseen institutional capital, implemented enterprise-wide technology systems, and written executive budgets. Their experience reflects a shared commitment to precision, accountability, and transparency.

As an elected constitutional officer, the Comptroller General should serve as the primary communicator of the state’s financial performance — providing lawmakers and citizens with accurate, accessible, and reliable information about revenues, expenditures, and fiscal trends.

Strong financial systems do more than track dollars. They build trust. And trust is the foundation of effective government.
